Hall of Heroes
“Don’t fear the dark…fear what’s in it.”
“He who does not walk quietly, does not walk for long.”
Alkor Loretheon stands at 5’7 and has a slender yet muscular build. A dark cloak covers his silver hair and pointed ears, but cannot hide his red eyes which pierce the darkest shadows. He wears black studded leather and has a scimitar latched to his waist. Magical runes etch the outline of his armor and pulse with faint energy. Various weapons and gear hang from his belt and pack, marking him as an experienced Dungeon Delver.
Alkor is a Magus, also known as a Magi. There are those who spend their lives poring over ancient tomes and texts, unlocking the power of magic, and there are those who spend their time perfecting the use of individual weapons, becoming masters without equal. The magus is at once a student of both philosophies, blending magical ability and martial prowess into something entirely unique, a discipline in which both spell and steel are used to devastating effect. Alkor is skilled in the arts of his trade and is most deadly when wielding his weapon of choice, a scimitar, in his main hand while casting spells from the other.
“Hate is a dagger—best when hidden and deadliest when precise.”
More immediately noticeable than his craft is his race. Alkor is a Drow. Standing at 5’7 and weighing roughly 120lbs, Alkor has a mane of silvery white hair and red eyes that see through the darkest shadows with ease. A man of few words, Alkor is a mercenary and professional dungeon delver who accompanies parties into dangerous caverns for a price. His motivations are not easily discovered but all who know him are keenly aware that if he has to choose between his life and theirs, they wouldn’t live long enough to see him struggle with the decision.
“Never befriend the oppressed unless you mean to murder the oppressor.”
“If You Ever See A Drow Smile, You Are Already Dead”
Alkor was a noble of house Loretheon, the 5th highest ranked house in the Drow city of V’elddrinnsshar deep within the under-dark. Alkor, a young Drow at the time, managed to escape the city when his house was attacked by another lower ranked family. In Drow society, it is perfectly acceptable to eliminate another family so long as none of the nobles survive to accuse you of the crime, otherwise the entire city will slay the attackers. As such, Alkor was relentlessly hunted through the under-dark for fear he would bring retaliation down upon the attackers.
“Many of my enemies died of natural causes, for a sword to the back will quite naturally kill you.”
Living in the darkness of the wild caves, Alkor became a skilled survivor and eventually made his way to the surface world. Suspecting he finally escaped his past, his only current ambition is to further the mastery of his skills and avoid attention as much as possible. He works as a professional dungeon delver and is hired out by adventurers seeking the skills of a drow in the dangerous caverns of the world. Alkor is also obsessed with learning new spells and will go to great pains to relieve an unwary wizard of his spell-book, as Magi can learn wizard spells for themselves.
“If you can see a trap I would recommend you look twice”
“Never underestimate your enemies, never overestimate your friends.”
For now Alkor is content to further these skills, but he dreams of one day returning to his homeland and getting revenge on those that hunted him through the under-dark. The only problem is Alkor never learned the identity of the house that attacked his own, meaning he can’t launch an official accusation otherwise he would have done so immediately. Having long since abandoned faith in the ways of his evil kin and Lolth the spider queen, Alkor has lost many of his abilities as a Drow. His magical abilities are but a shell of their former power and he constantly works to maintain their potency. He often questions whether his thirst for revenge is merely living in the past, for he would likely never wish to live with with his evil kin again even if he could. Still, vengeance resides constantly within the sphere of his motivation.
“Where in the Nine Hells did you ever get the notion I would fight fair?"
After having reached the surface world, Alkor booked passage across the sea, leaving his home continent behind to further escape his past. He made his home in the racially-friendly slums of a port city hiring out his services as a dungeon delver. He has formed a familiar relationship with a group of adventurers, bordering as closely to friendship as Alkor is currently capable of. After hiring him out for a few expeditions, the parties antics had become very amusing to the drow and their adventurous attitude was something he has found a sense of fulfillment in. He now offers to join with their adventurers free of charge, with his only price being a fare share of the treasure. Still wary of forming close bonds, this is the most comradery Alkor has allowed himself and it is the first significant step he has made in putting his dark origins behind him.
“Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they aren’t there”
Chaotic Neutral: A Chaotic Neutral character is an individualist who follows his or her own heart, and generally shirks rules and traditions. Although they promote the ideals of freedom, it is their own freedom that comes first. Good and Evil come second to their need to be free, and the only reliable thing about them is how totally unreliable they are. Chaotic Neutral characters are free-spirited and do not enjoy the unnecessary suffering of others, but if they join a team, it is because that team’s goals happen to coincide with their own at the moment. They invariably resent taking orders and can be very selfish in their pursuit of personal goals.
“Those who trust their lives in a drow’s hands often find it gone the second they turn their back.”
“Only those you trust can betray you.”
